Cláudio Filho


Claudio filho is a artist-researcher on the intersections of Art, Science, Technology, and Ecology, focusing on the collaboration between organic and digital systems (Human-Data-Environment). Primarily working with theory-based research, authored publications including  Emerging uncertainties: art, ecology and climate change in the Anthropocene (2023); Decentralizing Hegemonic Knowledge in Art Practices (forthcoming 2025); Helen and Newton Harrison on the frontier between art, science and nature (2024); Constructing Ruins: relationships between image, data, and ecology through environmental crises (2023); Vegetable writing: use of entheogenic plants in the expansion of perception (2022).

Cláudio is a Doctoral Candidate in the Postgraduate Program in Visual Arts at the Institute of Arts, University of Campinas (IA/Unicamp) - supported by a FAPESP Scholarship (2022-2026) and a CAPES Scholarship (2022) and was a Visiting Researcher at Aalto University (Finland, 2024). He is the Academic Coordinator of ACTlab – Laboratory for Art, Science, and Deviant Technologies (Unicamp) and a member of the R.A.T. Research Group (Aalto University), the Bioart Society, and the editorial council of Coleção eXtremidades (PUC-SP), where he also works as Editorial Producer.

He holds a Master's degree in Art Theory from the Postgraduate Program in Art, Culture, and Languages (PPG-ACL) at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF, Brazil), where he completed a thesis titled Pierre Restany: Beyond the Real. A Study on New Realism and Its Connection with the 10th São Paulo Biennial (1969). He also earned a Bachelor's degree in Arts and Design from the Institute of Arts and Design (IAD/UFJF).

Cláudio's awards include the 2024 Bioart Society Mini Residency at SOLU Space, Helsinki, and the Ars Bioarctica Residency at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station (scheduled for 2025); the 2023 MediAsia/KAMC IAFOR Scholarship in Kyoto, Japan; and being a 2022 finalist (with the Kodos Collective) for the FUNARTE Olympics of Visual Arts in the Digital Art category. His works have been exhibited in museums, galleries and festivals such  Piracemas 2024 in São Paulo, Exhibition Emerging Extended Realities in Macao, China, EmMeio#14 (Galeria Térreo) at the National Museum of the Republic in Brasília, Brazil, and the 17th Athens Digital Arts Festival in Athens, Greece.
